Educational Service, Inc. was founded in 1935 by Helen C. Collins, Ph. D., both to meet the tutorial needs of students in the greater Wilmington, DE area and to offer a private source of educational counsel to parents and professionals.
Incorporated in 1965 and under the directorship of Tina Maida Masington since 1982, Educational Service, Inc. continues to operate in a manner reflecting its founding philosophy, which is to help students of all ages maximize their potential and improve their self image through well planned, individualized intervention in the form of diagnostic educational testing and / or remedial, supportive, or enrichment tutoring.
Educational Service, Inc. also provides consulting services to parents and caregivers on all aspects of educational decision-making, as well as contracted instructional and testing services to public, charter, private, and parochial schools. Our philosophy is reflected in our motto: "Education and Service with Integrity." ESI is locally owned and operated, not franchised, nor computerized, and all individual tutoring is truly 1-on-1 and private.
Our Staff
The Teaching Staff at Educational Service, Inc. is comprised exclusively of degreed professionals. Many of our instructors hold advanced degrees and / or specialized certifications. Even those staff members who serve as service and program coordinators are trained teachers.
Featured Tutors
ALLEN BERNSTEIN
See Allen's Reading Strategies for Busy Parents
Allen is one of the most eclectic of our tutors. He has been an educator for more than three decades and has taught at both the elementary and high school levels, serving normally paced, as well as special education and gifted students. You may have read about him in our local newspaper, as he has been District Teacher of the Year and has taught the popular Stock Market Game, winning state championships eleven times! We have been most fortunate to have Allen on our staff through most of his career and are now delighted to announce that he has retired from Brandywine Springs School and will be able to serve even more students here at ESI. In his free time, Allen is an accomplished photographer. A quote he especially likes is: "We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success." (Samuel Smiles)
MARY ANN GLADNICK
Although Mary Ann began her career with the US Department of State, she has been a teacher since 1996. That same year, she won a Student Teacher of the Year Award at the University of Delaware's Department of Education. A former English major with a concentration in writing, she has tutored children from the elementary levels through the high school years in a variety of subject areas including history, geography, science, English, and math. She has had great success in working with children with emotional needs, including those with school phobias, OCD, and separation anxiety.
Besides teaching, Mary Ann enjoys visiting her 4 grown children, traveling, painting, quilting, and tennis.
VERONICA VASQUEZ
Veronica holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a Masters Degree from Stanford University. She has taught high school mathematics, including AP Statistics, at two of our local independent schools and is a member of both the Delaware Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the American Council on Education. In 2010 she was a contributing artist to Textures: the 6th European Meeting of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts" which took place in Riga, Latvia. She recently co-authored Barron's New " 450 cards to help you earn your GED". Congratulations, Veronica!
As Veronica, who is fluent in both English and Spanish, is currently taking a break from full-time teaching to spend more time with her young, growing family, she is available to tutor all levels of math and science, as well as SAT/ACT/GED Preparation. In her free time Veronica enjoys knitting, crocheting, reading science-fiction, and experimenting with Asian and Indian cooking. She also practices yoga. We are delighted to have Veronica on our tutoring staff!
